Prince Edward Auditorium, Collegiate School
American cellist, Aaron Minsky, is among the most influential string musicians of his generation. His "celtar" style (combining cello and guitar technique) has entered the popular and classical worlds. His over a dozen music books, published by Oxford University Press, have become standard repertoire. He composed the first classical arrangement ever approved by Ice Nine (the Grateful Dead's publisher) titled "Dead Cello".
Minsky is a Yamaha Artist and an O'Addario Artist. He has performed with top orchestras around the world as well as through the USA with his rock band "Von Cello".
In this short lecture, Minsky will discuss how he started as a rock guitarist, found Bach when he switched to classical cello, and then combined the two. The main thrust of his music is the combining of rock and classical. He may also discuss the Jewish influence along with other influences such as jazz, latin, celtic and modern classical, which have been added as flavoring to the main rock/classical mix.
